Benign Skin Growths

Signs & Symptoms

Benign skin growths are small raised areas that usually develop on the first or second layer of the skin. They can appear in various forms, such as:

  • Acrochordons (also known as skin tags)
  • Syringomas (often located on the eyelids)
  • Other less common benign tumors; such as adnexal lesions, etc.

These growths, while harmless, can be aesthetically bothersome or cause discomfort.

Solution & Treatment

Laser treatment is often the preferred method for precisely and safely removing these growths. It provides optimal results while minimizing the risk of visible scarring.

Acrochordons

Laser ablation offers a treatment that typically leaves no scars.

Examples of Treatments

  • Acrochordons: While several over-the-counter products are available, laser treatment is considered a safer and more effective option.
  • Syringomas: The CO2 laser is an excellent treatment for removing syringomas. It also allows for re-treatment in case of lesion recurrence several years later, which is generally not possible with surgery.

All these epidermal and dermal lesions respond very well to CO2 laser treatment when performed by an experienced skin specialist, such as Dr. Barolet, who has been practicing this type of procedure for over 25 years.
